HopeStreet artists win big at The Age Music Victoria awards!

Three big wins for us with Indigenous soul queen Emma Donovan taking out Best Indigenous Artist AND Best Funk/Soul Album, as well as street Salsa kings Quarter Street taking out Best Reggae/Roots Album at this years Age Music Victoria awards!

In September of 2014, acclaimed indigenous vocalist Emma Donovan and Melbourne rhythm combo The PutBacks came together to bring you Dawn, an LP of hard hitting and heartfelt soul songs telling stories of grief, struggle and redemption. Dawn is a gritty, uniquely Australian record, simultaneously classic and contemporary. The songwriting is in turns optimistic, angry and melancholic, and on occasions bruisingly honest. The music is fluid, live and raw, recorded in one room on eight channels of analog tape and the electric connection between Emma and the band comes through in every beat.

Emma has been kicking even more goals with her recent Double J Artist of The Year nomination alongside Hiatus Kaiyote, Paul Kelly & Tim Rogers. She also recently released a 7-inch vinyl release with Archie Roach, Tim Rogers & Joelistics in support of SOS BLAK AUSTRALIA, with all proceeds going to their cause.

The third win goes to hard hitting street Salsa group Quarter Street for their 2015 self titled album. It “marks a new era in Australian latin music, with their powerful arrangements evoking the 70’s heyday of New York born Salsa Dura”, says Lucky Oceans from ABC RN. The group has been awarded the Clave Contra Clave competition as well as international acclaim as Australia’s new latin sound.
