The PutBacks

The PutBacks have established themselves as one of the premier funk outfits in Australia. In their career they have opened for The Bamboos, Electric Empire and Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes, as well as international funk and soul icons The Menahan Street Band featuring Charles Bradley, and Booker T Jones. The PutBacks were also house band for Arts Centre Melbourne’s 2011 and 2012 Big Notes production, featuring the likes of Emma Donovan and Mantra.

The PutBacks have several 45’s out on HopeStreet Recordings – The Diamond Cutter (2009) as a split 7”, Busted/Set Me Free (2010) and Spanish Harlem (feat. Nai Palm) b/w The Worm (2014).

Dawn, a collaboration with Emma Donovan, is their first full length release and is out now

“The PutBacks lay down a groove exactly how I want to hear it: With super-heavy authentic tones, attitude and feel…” – Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos/Lanu)

“If the JB’s had their own monorail, the Putbacks have a steam train that runs right from Australia directly to every record player in the world”DJ Prestige

”Diamond Cutter is fresh — it’s cheesy enough to make white people dance but it’s not cheesy at all… it’s got the same kinda swinging feel as Tighten Up or Razor Blade, but still grooves hard like a JB/Pee Wee Ellis 45. Party starter! CAUTION: May induce white man’s overbite!” (R) Rex (Northside Records)
