Immanuel “Immy” Kwabena Dreessens-Owusu is a Torquay based artist of Ghanaian-Dutch heritage who grew up in two musical worlds; the rock’n’roll scene of Geelong and the Surf Coast, and the West African culture of his Ghanaian roots. Immy’s family’s musical legacy informs his songwriting, and Immy fuses traditional styles with psych, rock and funk. In 2016 he travelled to Ghana to study under his grandfather, legendary musician Koo Nimo and in 2022 he recorded his debut album (released 2023) with his father Kojo Noah Owusu and Ghanaian drummer Julius Sackey in an all star session that also featured members of cinematic soul bands Karate Boogaloo and Surprise chef.

Immy teaches drums and has been the touring and studio drummer for artists such as Yirrimal and One Spirit Africa. In addition to drums, guitar and vocals, Immy plays balafon, seprewaa and djembe in the Ashanti tradition. His self produced single “Danger” premiered on triple j’s Roots ‘n All in 2019, and his first two singles “Mantra” and “Brown Supremacy” with producer Liam McGorry, were released on Hopestreet Hopestreet recordings in early 2022.
